I’m really behind on posting my topics this week. Earlier this week, on Sunday or Monday, the second episode of our XABY Radio podcast was posted. We’ve moved to a new host and the podcast will now be found at xabyradio.libsyn.com.

This time around I was properly caffinated and lubricated to join in on the discussion. I’m still fearful of listening to my own voice on this one, so all my impressions of the podcast are from memory. I briefly discuss being addicted to NHL 09–an addiction I broke almost immediately thereafter. All in all, I rather enjoyed this shorter episode even though I could only contribute as an armchair observer to the Tokyo Game Show rather than an in-person participant.

I recently endured the ignominy of being awake at eight o’clock in the morning on a Sunday–a SUNDAY–to join Nayan, Josh, Eric and Segata to record our inaugural XABY Radio podcast. I didn’t talk much, so I definitely needed a coffee or a beer. Or both. Noted for next time.

Srsly.

I was pretty honored to be invited to partake in the podcast. These are all guys whose point of view I respect quite a bit and–at least those of us I could find a blog by–all have some pretty insightful and interesting commentary about games and the industry. We kind of ran out of time to get to some real interesting topics, but all in all, not too shabby a start. We’ll get better and I’m really looking forward to being more awake next time.

The podcast covers us reviewing our newest game purchases and discussing the recent Nintendo Conference (Japan, US – Day 1 and Day 2), the future of DRM, along with the road to Tokyo Game Show.

We’ll be placing it up on iTunes soon, but you can download a measly (28 MB) file on the XABY Radio page: http://xabyradio.libsyn.com/

Ok, so it probably never got past the mock-up of the control scheme, but who wouldn’t want an adventure game that shows how Mr. T really does pity the fool(s)? Ok, ok! So the whole control scheme was probably a joke, but that means somebody had way too much time on their hands.

Any of you fancy independent developers with experience in adventure games and humor, who think they can wrangle the greatness that is Mr. T, get in touch, this game begs to be made.

It does, but don’t contact me, I have no idea how to begin working on this and I’m busy enough as it is. Josh, that means this is your next project.

One particular individual, animpinabox, took the time to research and match up the dancing emotes for each individual World of Warcraft character and race to the originals it took inspiration from. They say they grabbed all the clips used for the comparison from YouTube, which is quite a feat in itself. The attention to detail by Blizzard is just… ridiculously astounding. And just plain ridiculous too.

Normally, reading a list of known bugs for any given game would probably make flip out and complain on message boards and blogs until the developer patched the game for a bug that shouldn’t have been there in the first place with proper QA. At least that is what it seems like these days. Or everybody is exploiting some glitch or bug to gain unfair advantages in the online games. Hardly, if ever, are they actually so amusing to read that you are captivated into reading — and laughing — about nearly every single one, reminiscing about some by-gone yet warm and familiar moments of gaming.

This is what Graeme Cree’s Zork I bugs list turns out to be. Yes, that Zork I… the one about The Great Underground Empire that had you starting off the game standing in an open field west of a white house, with a boarded front door, and worrying about grues eating you in the dark.

The bugs detailed in the list nearly all produce hilarious results, such as “the command HIT MIRROR WITH SWORD will generate combat responses, such as ‘The mirror parries’…” If you remember those days of text-based adventures, go lose yourself for half an hour or more reading about the bugs. You won’t regret it.

Sort of. I was being a smartass on NeoGAF in a bunch of different threads being sarcastic and joking around. Things were crazy, so what else could I do. All logic and reason had escaped from the board temporarily for a couple of days. On some thread I was being sarcastic about shifting my fake programming work from some backwards compatibility title to working on, also fake, theme decks for the Xbox Live Arcade version of Uno. I said that I was working on theme decks based on Perfect Dark Zero and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.

What’s funny is that doing a theme deck on the latter probably wouldn’t be too bad an idea. I think m0dus figured this out because he whipped me up this great fake “screenshot” of what the Uno theme deck (and table) would look like. Pretty awesome work.

I think it’s something Konami should look into…

Just when you think Capcom’s Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney can’t get any more ingrained in Internet pop culture (or popular for that matter — as of today it’s #35 on Amazon.com’s Computer and Video Games Sales rankings), something else pops up.

Thanks to the ever intrepid (or bored) sp0rsk on NeoGAF comes this find: a make-your-own-objection tool using animation straight from from the game. I really don’t know what’s a better way to pass the time (as many on the board have already)… by creating your own objections or by changing the resulting URL to see what other people have come up with. You’ll have to crack the “code” to get the alternate versions of these animations, which include Edgeworth and versions of Phoenix and Edgeworth with music.

Would it be really ironic that I’m currently typing this out of the old Nordstrom’s corporate headquarters building?

And so all goes full circle.
